White Cane Donations for the vision impaired people of Myanmar
Do you have an unwanted white cane?
Please donate it to someone who will use it. The people of Myanmar have little access to resources to support those with low or no vision. We are accepting used white cane donations to be gifted to displaced people at the Thailand border, and people in Myanmar.
Why Myanmar?
You may have met Brian Zaw in the CAC or Gym. VisAbility client Brian is originally from Myanmar and worked with the Association for the Blind of Myanmar for many years. He continues to support the vision impaired community in Myanmar.
In Myanmar, there are not a lot of resources for people who are blind or vision impaired. There is very little assistive technology or daily living aids available for people who have low or no vision. It is Brian’s goal to make life easier for his vision impaired community back home, by sharing knowledge and tools that are common in Australia.
Brian and Hasmukh (VisAbility O&M) have already donated some used white canes, and they need more.
Mail or drop off any unwanted white canes to VisAbility in Victoria Park and we’ll send them to volunteers in Myanmar for distribution and basic O&M training.
