Workshop outline

This course will give you an insight into what a typical day might entail for a person with a Vision Impairment and the challenges they often face. This course will involve interactive discussions on how strategies, aids and assistive technologies can be used to support individuals to maintain their independence in everyday life. This course will give a brief overview of the services available at VisAbility.

What is covered?

  • Understanding of what low vision is.
  • Understanding of Macular Degeneration and how it presents.
  • Experience “A Day in the Life of Dave”: the challenges a person with vision impairments faces every day and how he overcomes these challenges.
  • Services available at VisAbility.

Who is this course for?

  • University courses learning about vision impairments
  • Workplaces and organisations with staff and consumers living with a Vision Impairment.
  • Corporate Professional Development Days

Facilitator details

This course will be presented by one of our Occupational Therapists.

The course is suitable for everyone wanting to learn more about vision impairment and its impact on people’s lives.

 

Workshop details

This workshop can be conducted at your designated location (onsite), VisAbility (Victoria Park) or remotely via video conference.  Note that to get the most benefit from the workshop we recommend the workshop be conducted in person.

The workshop runs for 1 hour.

Requirements

Onsite

  • Room set up in classroom format.
  • Data projector and screen, HDMI or USB C connection.
  • Display table 1000mm by 600mm.

Remote

  • Access to Microsoft Teams.
