Workshop outline
This targeted course will teach you practical strategies to implement within your workplace to better support an individual with a vision impairment. This course will look at how your workplace environment can be changed to better support and individual with a vision impairment to maintain their independence within the workplace.
This course will require your workplace to send in a thorough explanation of the work office / worksite so we are able to tailor it specifically for you.
What is covered?
- Understanding of what low vision is and common eye conditions causing vision loss
- Understanding and explanation of colleague’s specific vision impairment and experience what it is like for them to see the world around them
- Understanding of basic aids and assistive technologies available to increase an individual’s independence within the workplace.
- Understanding of practical strategies to implement within the workplace to better support an individual (e.g. communication tips, environmental adjustments).

Facilitator details
This course will be presented by one of our Occupational Therapists.
Skill level
This workshop is suitable for everyone working with individuals with a vision impairment in an employment. It can be adapted for volunteer settings.
Workshop details
This workshop can be conducted at your designated location (onsite), VisAbility (Victoria Park) or remotely via video conference. Note that to get the most benefit from the workshop we recommend the workshop be conducted in person at your workplace.

This workshop runs for 1 hour.

Requirements
Onsite
- Room set up in classroom format
- Data projector and screen, HDMI or USB C connection.
- Access to an indoor corridor with hinged or sliding doors and a flight of stairs with handrails.
- Table 1000mm by 600mm.
Remote
- Access to Microsoft Teams.
